I was admittedly anxious about having this touchscreen Installed. All other product options are known NOT to work on 2014 & 2015 bmw X5’s. Yet 4x4.ca claimed to have a product that does allow apple car play and all the other modern options that come with it. Other than the fact that your phone has to be paired to the touchscreen separately from the bmw Bluetooth, I’m pleased to report that the unit works very well, and remembers the Bluetooth pairing when exiting and returning to the vehicle, Spotify auto starts where you left off, and Google Maps in CarPlay work seamlessly. The only thing to be aware of is how you pick up a call. Without using the steering wheel controls, it sometimes picks the wrong Bluetooth device if you take the call on your phone for example. But if you follow the the workflow as Instructed by the knowledgeable install team, everything works as Intended. I’ve now been using the unit for a couple of weeks….didnt want to complete this review until I was certain I was happy with it.

Had the unit professionally installed. I had to modify my dash to make the unit fit. Still haven’t received a response regarding changing the kilometers per hour to miles per hour.

So, this is perhaps, quite possibly one of the absolute BEST upgrades I have ever done to a vehicle in my life… (I’m 65 by the way, so it’s a long time and about 80 cars). The install was much easier than I thought. I was super cautions, but essentially plug & play. The more difficult part was to pull the fiber optic plug from the original plug and put it into the new piggy-back harness. Other than that the next most difficult part was hiding the wire harness. It needs to be done carefully so you can fit the radio back in. After that, it’s setting all the options, connecting to Bluetooth, and configuring the system. Honestly, a very detailed video or detailed paper instructions would be very helpful. I did pay the $30.00 for the 20 minutes of support. That was very prudent. I did have an issue where the calls coming through on the system would revert to the handset. I was able to fix that in a few minutes. All in all, the best value out there.
